Herschel M. Bonifield, former Knoxville young man died suddenly at Brooklyn, N.Y., last Friday, a victim of heart trouble. Mr. Bonifield was found dead in bed.

He had suffered from the disease for several years and sometime during the night his heart stopped.

He was employed by the Bell Telephone Co. as an electrician at Brooklyn.

Mr. Bonifield was born at Knoxville, March 13, 1898. He graduated from Knoxville high school in 1916 and when the world war broke out he enlisted in the navy April 27, 1917. He was in the submarine division and saw active service throughout the war.

Jan. 24, 1920, he was married to Miss Martha Heery of Brooklyn, N.Y. Besides his wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Catherine Bonifield, two sisters, Mrs. Bertha McCrillis and Nola Bonifield, and three brothers, Luther C., Warden B. and William T. Bonifield.

He was preceded in death by his father, William M. Bonifield, who died Feb. 22, 1909, and one brother, Hill C. Bonifield, who died Dec. 24, 1920.

Accompanied by Mrs. Bonifield, the body was brought to Knoxville and the funeral services were held at the Bybee & Davis funeral home Tuesday Oct 1, at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. C.V. Pence.

Interment at Graceland cemetery.
