Robert Campbell07/03/2003
A celebration of life for Robert Howard Campbell, 74, of Owens Valley, Calif., who
died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at his home, was held Saturday, July 12, at Elks Park
in Bishop.

Bob was born on Jan 15, 1929, in Omaha, Neb., to Carl and Laura Campbell.
He attended high school in Knoxville and then served in the U.S. Army from 1948
to 1952.

Later, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly, and moved to Iowa
City, where he graduated from the University of Iowa. Bob enjoyed a long teaching
career, starting in Bettendorf. In 1960, he moved his family to California in the
"Blue Whale," a school bus filled with all their possessions.

After teaching a year
in Hacienda Heights, the family moved to the Owens Valley, where Bob worked at Big
Pine High School and later at Bishop High School as a teacher, coach and advisor.
During his teaching career, Bob served as a city councilman and as mayor of Bishop.
Later, he served as an Inyo County supervisor for two terms.

Through his local television
show, "Agenda," he was able to share with others his love of this area and the people
in it. Bob was a fiercely patriotic, compassionate man who loved his family and
friends. He also loved children, animals, teaching, helping others and working with
the people in the Owens Valley. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved
him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold. He is survived
by his wife of 52 years, Beverly; two sisters and their husbands, Sheila and Don
Enemark and Louise and Jim McInville; a daughter and her husband, Julie and Lance
Wagoner of Bishop; a son and his wife, Bruce and Laurie Campbell of Reno; and five
grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Elks Scholarship Fund for a Big Pine and/or
Bishop High School student in Bob's name.
