Raymond Dwight Chambers was born on October 31, 1941 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Eddie Chambers and Zella (Light) Chambers.

He grew up in Knoxville, graduating with the Knoxville High School Class of 1959. Ray enlisted in the United States Army in January 18, 1960 and served until he was honorably discharged on December 31, 1962.

He was united in marriage to Phyllis Cooper on August 12, 1981 in Knoxville.

Ray and his brother, Bob, enjoyed restoring old tractors to sell. He farmed for Beryl Kane for many years and also worked at Maytag in Newton until he was forced to retire in 1989 due to health reasons.

Ray enjoyed mushrooming, coon hunting and cutting wood with Phyllis’ uncle. He was also a woodworker and made cedar chests and toy boxes for all of the family.

Ray passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Comfort House in Pella at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Iva Pearl Nicholson in 1976, Vernie, Loretta LaVerne and Ila Dee in infancy; brothers, Alfred Harold Chambers in 2010, Robert Dwain Chambers in 2000 and a brother-in-law, Jack Nicholson in 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; brothers, Edward Chambers (Doris) of Oskaloosa, Randle Chambers (Berneil) of Knoxville; sisters, Lila Donohue (Dean) and Jean Vande Kamp (Bill) all of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Maxyne Chambers of Knoxville; mother-in-law, Betty Cooper of Knoxville; nieces and caretakers, Kristina Wilkins (Mike) and Stacy Ford (Richard) all of Knoxville, along with other nieces, nephews and many friends.
