Gene M. Bane 85, resident of Sun City West, Arizona formerly of Knoxville and Iowa City Iowa died Thursday May 20, 2010 at Hospice of the Valley, Sun City, Arizona.

Gene was born in Knoxville, Iowa, July 27, 1924, to Loren (Tom) Bane and Barbara Menefee Bane. He had one brother Leland who preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of Knoxville High School and attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa before being drafted into the Army in 1943. He was a WWII Army veteran in the Seventh Army 411th regiment in the European theater. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Civil Engineering.

He married Harriett F. Wade (b.1924) in 1946 and they had two children, Karen and James Loren. She died December 23, 1963. Gene and his brother ran Bane Chevrolet in Knoxville until 1970.

In 1964 he married Joan Reynolds Nelson and her three children James Lee, Peggy and Mark. The family moved to Iowa City in 1970, where he worked as the assistant and then County Engineer until he retired in 1988.

He is survived by his wife Joan and children Karen (Bill) McGimpsey, James Loren (Linda), James (Galena) Nelson, Peggy (David) Johnson, Mark (Susan) Nelson, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Service is Tuesday May 25, at Camino Del Sol in Sun City West, Arizona. Donations may be given to Hospice of the Valley or a local hospice.
