Edgar John Vande Kamp was born July 27, 1921, in Leighton, Iowa the son of John and Gertrude (Ver Steeg) Vande Kamp.

Ed attended Fee Country School and eventually Knoxville High School.

He worked on the family farm as a young man and later drove a coal truck. On October 14, 1942, Ed was united in marriage to Anna Mae Den Burger in Lancaster, Missouri.

Ed then took a job at Marion County Produce, and eventually became the manager. He also traveled as a hybrid seed salesman, before becoming an insurance agent in 1960.

Ed and John Fee were partners in the Ream Insurance Agency for 35 years. In 1987 they sold the agency to McKay Insurance.

Ed was active in the Knoxville community, having been a member of the Y’s men Club, Odd Fellows, Police Auxiliary, and the Knoxville Cemetery and Parks Boards.

He also taught citizenship classes for many years to the Knoxville 4-H clubs. Ed coached and managed several little league and Babe Ruth teams and was active in the First Baptist Church.

Ed passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics at the age of 92 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Vande Kamp, and siblings: Harry, Clarence, Harold, Ronald Vande Kamp, and Clara Graves.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Anna Mae; children: Gary D. Vande Kamp (Barbara) of Clinton; Jerry “Jim” Vande Kamp (Debbie) of Urbandale and Thomas E. Vande Kamp (Marylin) of West Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Glen Vande Kamp of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.
