Ronald Perry Mateer was born September 9, 1951 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of Dwight “Harold” Mateer, Jr. and Loma Bomell (Phillips) Mateer.

Ron was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1970. Ron attended DMACC after graduation and worked for several years in Des Moines at Massey-Ferguson. When the company closed up shop and returned to Canada, Ron returned to Knoxville where he worked for the City of Knoxville Street Department for another 10 years before returning to Des Moines and a job with the United States Postal Service.

Ron worked for the Central Post Office in downtown Des Moines for 29 years prior to retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf and spending time with his friends.

Ron enjoyed cars, especially his 2000 Camaro SS which he had modified at Doug Ripee Motorsport and featured a 475 hp motor and a Moser 12 bolt rear end that Ron installed himself. Ron was a member of the Mid-Iowa Camaro Club for many years and enjoyed participating in car shows, drag racing events, cruises and many other club activities.

In Ron’s later years he was blessed to have his dog, Brody, a Miniature Pincher. The two were constant companions and provided Ron with much love and attention.

Ron passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 64 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight “Harold” Mateer, Jr.

Those left to cherish Ron’s memory include his mother, Bomell Mateer; brother, Dwight (Sandra) Mateer; nephew, Mike (Judy) Mateer; niece, Molly (Drew) Uhlman; great-nephew, Blake; aunt, Lucielle Lorence and many other family members and friends.

A Memorial Service for Ron Mateer, age 64 of Des Moines, will be held on Monday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville S.O.S. Fund or to the Marion County Humane Society
